PROFESSOR JORMA RANTANEN
Professor Rantanen holds a PhD in radiation biology and medical biochemistry from the University of Turku. He is the author of more than 430 research reports and book chapters covering medical biochemistry, radiation biology, toxicology, risk assessment and occupational health.  His professional honours would fill an entire page by themselves. They include appointment as Commander of the Order of the White Rose of Finland, awarded by the President of the Republic of Finland, the Ramazzini Award presented by the Collegium Ramazzini, Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians London and Academician and Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. He was President of the International Commission of Occupational Health from 2003-06. Prior to that he was Director General of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health and attached as an expert to WHO, ILO and EU. He participated in drafting of the ILO instruments on occupational health services, the WHO Global Strategy on Occupational Health for All and recently the WHO/ILO/ICOH Guidelines for Basic Occupational Health Services.  He has over 30 years experience on programmes for occupational health in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Central/South America. He is a specialist in occupational health services, clinical occupational medicine, toxicology research and development of occupational health and safety regulations in Finland and internationally.  He recently received the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health's first Lifetime Achievement Award in Occupational Safety and Health.

PROFESSOR TAR-CHING AW
Professor Aw has recently taken up the Chair of the Department of Community Medicine at the United Arab Emirates University.  He moved from the University of Kent in Canterbury where he was Professor of Occupational Medicine and head of the occupational health department at East Kent hospitals NHS Trust since 2002. Prior to that he was senior lecturer at the Institute of Occupational Health in Birmingham.  Professor Aw spent 4 years at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in Cincinnati, and he has worked for the Health & Safety Executive in London.  He has also served as WHO consultant in occupational health for Kuwait, ILO consultant in Geneva, and consultant to the Malaysian Ministry of Health for a World Bank-funded project on occupational health.  He was elected Board member of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) for two terms of office, and was formerly Chief Examiner and elected board member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians (London), and  Chair of the EU Expert Committee on Diagnosis of Occupational diseases in Luxembourg.

DR SAMEERA AL-TUWAIJRI
Dr AL-Tuwaijri is the director of the International Programme on Occupational Safety and Health and the Environment ( SafeWork), in the Social Protection Sector at the ILO Headquarter in Geneva. The programme is responsible for ensuring that safety and health are integral part of every job, as part of the ILO's decent work agenda. Dr Al -Tuwaijri is a physician by classical training. She has practiced clinical medicine before venturing into public heath. She has a master's degree in health policy and management from George Washington University, a Masters degree in Public Health from Harvard, and a post-doctoral degree in health systems from Johns Hopkins University. Before joining the ILO, she has worked for other UN agencies like the World Bank, WHO and UNFPA.

Dr Eichendorf was educated in Physics and Mathematics at Bochum and Bonn. He has served in various appointments including being a research staff member at the European Southern Observatory (1980-1983) in Geneva, Munich and Chile; the head of statistical department 1983-1989 at HVBG; its director of public relations 1989-1998 and subsequently as deputy director general since 1998. Since 2007, he was also deputy director general of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV). In addition, he was also responsible for a number of large international projects, e.g. the European Year for Safety and Health at Work (1991-1993), Germany's federation for Safety and Health Basi (1996-1998) or the thematic area Future of Work at EXPO 2000 in Hanover. Since 2003, he was also the Vice President of the Research Section of the International Social Security Association (ISSA).

Professor Guo is a medical physician who received his training at the National Taiwan University, and subsequently public and environmental health training at Harvard and Johns Hopkins Universities, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centre and the University of California. He is presently Director, Department of Environmental & Occupational Medicine, National Taiwan University School of Medicine and member of the clinical staff at the Department of Internal Medicine, National Taiwan University Hospital.  He has held various teaching and research positions as visiting professor to the National Cheng Kung University, Harvard School of Public Health and National Health Research Institute. He has also chaired the Committee of Recommended Exposure Levels of Chemicals in Workplaces with the Council of Labour Affairs and President of the Taiwan Environmental and Occupational Medicine Association and Asian Association for Occupational Health.  His specialist areas for which he has numerous publications, are in the fields of toxicology, environmental health and various fields in occupational medicine (most recently that of occupational mental stress in various Taiwanese occupations).

DR HO SWEET FAR
Dr Ho is the Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Specialist Department of the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore.  An occupational physician by training, Dr Ho has many years of experience in the investigations of work-related diseases and ill health, medical surveillance and developing occupational health standards in Singapore.  She has conducted a number of occupational health studies and published scientific papers locally as well as in overseas journals. These included studies on health problems associated with computer work, heavy metals and carcinogens.  Currently, as the Centre Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Occupational Health in Singapore, she provides the direction to the development and enhancements of research projects under three activity areas of the WHO Global plan of Action on Workers Health, 2006 -2010.

DR CLARION E. JOHNSON
Dr Johnson is the current Global Medical Director of the Medicine and Occupational Health-Department for Exxon Mobil Corporation which delivers services to over 80,000 ExxonMobil and affiliate employees worldwide.  In addition to traditional work-related health services, this department delivers travel medicine to the many ExxonMobil employees engaged in exploration and production in challenging environments worldwide.  He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and occupational medicine. In addition to a cardiology fellowship, he did a military/basic science fellowship at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research followed by two years as a postdoctoral student in the field of microwave research. He is a Board Member to the Milbank Memorial Fund and National Business Group on Health and serves as an advisor and lecturer for the "Global Medical Clinic Course" sponsored by Harvard Medical School. He also is on the IOM NIOSH HSE Review Committee.  He is a member of the Urban League's advisory board BEEP (Black Executive Exchange Program) and the Joint Commission Advisory Board Globalization of Health Services.  He has published a variety of articles in various fields.

MR LEE TZU YANG
Lee Tzu Yang graduated in economics in 1976 from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and has worked with Shell since 1979.  Towards the end of July 2000, he took on the position of Chairman of Shell Companies in Singapore. In 2005 he was appointed as Chairman of the Workplace Safety and Health Advisory Committee, and was re-appointed as Chairman of the Workplace Safety and Health Council.  In addition to this, he currently holds several appointments in external organisations and boards, among which are the boards of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce, the Singapore Arts School, the Legal Service Commission, and the Board of Trustees of the National University of Singapore.

His involvement in safety and health at the workplace started with joining Shell, and he credits his interest in the subject to his grounding there.  Shell puts safety and health top most for its businesses, and it is an essential competency for its leadership. "As a responsible business, we recognise the potential impact that we make on others - customers, suppliers, staff and our community.  We aim for a positive impact. If we create risks in the course of our business, we must aim to manage those risks in order that our staff and others who come in contact suffer no harm, and are able to go home safe and well.  It is our belief based on long experience that a safe business is good business."

PROFESSOR KEN TAKAHASHI
Professor of Environmental Epidemiology and Acting Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Occupational Health at the University of Occupational and Environmental Health (UOEH), Kitakyushu, Japan. He graduated the School of Medicine of Keio University in 1983, received his Ph.D. from UOEH and M.P.H. from the University of Pittsburgh. He has been devoting most of his professional career to epidemiologic research of occupational diseases, with special interest on occupational lung diseases, and asbestos diseases in particular. He has served as consultant and advisor to WHO and ILO, as well as examiner and advisor to academic institutes of several neighboring countries. He serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health and Occupational Medicine (Oxford). He is Board Member of the International Commission of Occupational Health (ICOH).

Professor Tang is presently Professor and Director, at the Department of Occupational Health, School of Public Health at the Tianjin Medical University. He received his medical and graduate training at Tianjin Medical University and the Netherlands University of Groningen and German Aachen University.  He also holds numerous professional appointments including Expert, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Member of Committee of Experts for Identification of Toxic Chemicals, Ministry of Health, People’s Republic of China, Member of the Board of Directors at Tianjin Preventive Medicine Association, Deputy Chairman of Toxicology, Preventive Medicine Association and Deputy Chairman of Occupational Health and Occupational Medicine, Tianjin Preventive Medicine Association.  His specialist areas for which he has numerous publications, are in industrial and environmental pollutants, health effects of dioxins and occupational dermatology.
